| ABOUT
LIMITED EDITIONS A "Limited Edition" is an image reproduced in a strictly limited quantity, to guarantee the rarity and future value of the print. So the artist signs each print, then individually numbers it in the order it was made. For example, 3/250 would be the third print in a series of 250. Limited Editions are typically between 100 and 1500 prints, though there exist a few editions as low as 20 and some "limited" to over 5,000 copies! Obviously, the smaller the edition, the more likely that values will increase, in the future. All my prints are true photographs - not inkjet prints. They are produced in editions of just 200, each one signed & numbered on the back of the print, to ensure authenticity. I also discretely sign & number the matting, so you will know, at a glance, that the print is genuine. By contrast, an "open" edition (usually, but not always, done in smaller sizes, as "ready-to-frame" prints, greeting cards and the like) may be printed without limit. Open editions are rarely signed & never numbered, thus are of much lower value. This, of course, is also refleced in the purchase price. Should an open edition print be signed, it will usually be prefaced or suffixed by "O/E", meaning "open edition". Signatures on such prints do little to enhance the value, for it is the limited number of prints which creates true value. My Limited Edition photographs are produced in editions of just 200 signed & numbered prints. Thus, an edition may consist of,say, 153 8x10" and 47 12x18" prints. No matter how the sizes are mixed, no more than 200 signed & numbered prints will ever be made. Each one is supplied in a simple, yet elegant, black metal frame with glass, not acrylic, glazing, tastefully matted, using 100% acid free mateials, to ensure longevity.
