The RE was an economy version of the R5;  having only the manual and aperture priority modes. Somewhere between 6000 and 8000 were made, between 1990  to 1992.  The RE is a real workhorse camera and at the time offered a cheaper way of entering the R system, because both the R5 and R6 were more expensive.
